Blog Post #4 The Wonders of Biodiversity

The Brassica is the plant that we are experimenting with.  The Brassica is plant that is part of the cabbage family.  This plant is also known as a vegetable. We predict that the offspring of the Brassica plant will look pretty much the same as the Brassica because they are part of the same family.  They both would be green and they would grow like the Brassica.  They would also have the same texture.  Some of the Brassica plants that were grown in the garden look different because some might have received sunlight or they received water.

Blog Post #4 The Wonders of Biodiversity

The plant that we are experimenting with is the Brassica.  The Brassica is part of the cabbage family and its also known as a vegetable. We can predict that the offspring of the Brassica will be almost the same as them because they are plants.  They would be green and they would start off as a seed and then grow.  It is most likely that the offspring of the Brassica will look a lot like them.  Some Brassica plants that were grown in the garden look different because some might have received sunlight or they received water.

The Mystery of the Disappearing Brassicas: Applying the Scientific Method to Determine Why a Crop Failed

Evidence:

Our plants didn't fully die. There was a lot of water when we were planting it. Our plant grew a little bit and its like one inch tall. There were also one or two bugs when we saw them. Our plants don't really get that much sunlight because there are other plants and those are growing much faster. Our plants probably died because of not getting that much sunlight, water and because there are bugs around the plants.

Hypothesis :

Our plants most likely died because there were some bugs that were moving around in the soil.  Another possibility of our plants dying is the amount of water that was put.  There was a lot of water given to another plant and it might have traveled to our plant. The last possibility of our plants dying is because of it not receiving  that much sunlight.

Experiment:

For our experiment we are going to first grow three plants.  Then when they grow a little bit we are going to place them in the soil.  After that we place them in the soil we are going to give a ton of water to "plant a" and then a little bit of water to "plant b".  Then for "plant c" we are going to give it a normal amount of water.  We will check up on it for a couple of weeks and record our experiment.

Brief Bio

Hi my name is Leslie Delgado i am 14 years old and live in San Jose . I love      Biology and the project we are doing for Mr.Bursh. I love to eat vegetables and fruits like mango's. I hope our plants can grow enough and be fresh and healthy. I want to try to get a good grade in this class and to work hard.I haven't worked in gardening that much but i hope i can be a pro by the end of the project. In my Middle School they had Gardening Class but i really wasn't curious .

brief bio

My name is Ximena Fernandez, I' am from San Jose California, but I was born in Mexico.
I have planted a couple of plants in my front yard, but I would forget to water them and they would die.
My mom loves planting, she has a couple of plants and flowers in the front yard. I'm not sure what type of plants she has, but they would grow really fast. My uncle also loves to plant. He works helping people decorate the plants as an event.

Brief Bio

My name is Diana Serrano. I am from San Jose, California. I did try to plant something a couple of years ago. I don't quite remember what I tried to plant but I would keep the seed in soil, water it and I made sure it had sunlight. Then after a couple of weeks nothing would grow so it basically would die. Some people that know a lot about gardening would be my parents. My parents plant many plants, like tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables. They take good care of their plants and water them every other day or every other couple of days. I think it is cool to eat fruits and vegetables that they plant and grow.
